Hi. I’m Mükrime Nur Gümüş, and nearly everyone calls me Nur (pronounced “noor”).

I have a BSc in Mathematical Engineering from Yıldız Technical University, and I work as an AI engineer. I’ve built agent and LLM systems that run in production, which is a very effective way to learn how many different ways a system can surprise you.

The part of engineering I like most is the middle of a problem: there’s a strange system in front of you, you have a hypothesis that is probably wrong, you run the experiment, it is wrong, and slowly, over a few days and too many log files, you work out what is actually going on. That’s most of why I like competitions. It’s probably also why I keep ending up near agents, optimization, and agent security, where the system is sometimes actively trying to surprise you.

The longer list of things I find technically interesting: agentic systems, LLM systems, optimization, search and planning, adversarial agents and agent security, mathematical modelling, simulation, machine learning systems, NLP, and, occasionally, computer vision. Some of it shows up in projects; the half-finished thoughts go in notes.

outside the terminal

I draw and paint; some of it will end up in drawings. I read a lot, mostly mathematics, philosophy and literature, sometimes all three in the same week. I listen to metal. And I fall into intellectual rabbit holes with some regularity. interests is a partial map of them.

I’m also planning a small simulation game in which you play a cat who is the fleet manager of Istanbul’s public transport. It is exactly as serious as it sounds. It has a page.

• Nur means light and Gümüş means silver, so my name reads a little like an item description in a fantasy game.

This site is plain HTML and one stylesheet, written by hand, with a few lines of JavaScript for one unimportant thing. The fonts are whatever your computer already has: serif for reading, monospace for the machinery.
